Brazil are the new favourites for the View more

As of late the focus on Argentina has been primarily upon their management, therefore as a team, collectively they have been under the radar in the past few years. Nevertheless, going into any tournament Argentina are always certainly one of the favourites to go all the way but perhaps they often enough fail to live up to expectations. It is hard to see why Argentina does not make the most of their chances as they have always had a strong squad and have always possessed a strong passion for success. Notwithstanding their lack of major success, historically they have a pretty impressive record in World Cup tournaments as they have won the tournament twice, in 1978 and 1986 and just like Brazil and Spain, they are the only other team that have won the tournament outside their continental zone.

Best bets for Argentina at World Cup 2014

The current FIFA rankings demonstrate that in fact, no one can argue that Argentina do not have a real shot at winning the World Cup. They are currently ranked third, miles ahead of many other teams who will also go into the World Cup as favourites. Additionally, Argentina appear to have a great all-round squad who can perhaps go all the way, there is no better time than now with the talent that they now have. They have the world’s best player, that being Messi who can on his own destroy any defence and make a mockery out of any team, even on days where he is not at this best. Argentina also have a wealth of experience, by having players along with Messi who regular play in many high profile matches, such as Zabaleta, Aguero and Tevez who all play for Manchester City. It is also worth noting that many of Argentina’s squad play their football all over the globe, not only in England but also Spain, Italy and within the South American continent in some of the best international domestic leagues. Therefore, Argentina certainly does possess a wealth of experience and have experience against playing some of the major teams in the world. Consequently, as a team Argentina has the potential to cause some real damage, gel well and play football with great confidence which makes them one of the favourites to win the World Cup.
