Brazil’s Confederations Cup success makes them favourites for 2014

Brazil are the new favourites for the 2014 World Cup following an impressive performance in the Confederations Cup. Brazil can be backed at best odds of 9/2 for next Summer’s tournament, and it’s easy to see why they are favourites after defeating reigning World Cup Champions Spain 3-0 in the final of the Confederation Cup. Brazil also have home advantage which is another important factor in making them favourites.

As a result of the defeat, Spain have drifted a little in the betting, now available at best odds 11/2, behind Germany and Argentina who can both be backed at best odds of 5/1. It’s obvious the bookmakers are having a hard time separating these sides, as it’s unusual to have 4 teams priced so close together before the start of a tournament.

Another side that caught the eye during the Confederations Cup were Uruguay. With a strike force of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez, 50/1 looks like a huge price and great each-way value. The reason that Uruguay are such a long price is they are not performing in their qualifying group, but can still ensure qualification by winning their remaining games.

Italy finished third in the Confederations Cup and their odds haven’t changed much as a result, with best odds of 20/1 still available. This may tempt some punters into placing each-way bets on the Italians, who were runners-up at Euro 2012.

Closer to the start of the tournament we’ll be providing a load of betting tips for World Cup 2014, along with reviews of the best free bets and betting offers from all bookmakers.
